pt425 (Kohler) oil capacity

I have the new 425 which came with the longer filter. The replacement filter per the PT manual shows the shorter filter.
Personally, I don't think it matters which you use as long as it will fit in the space provided.

It probably doesn't matter much which filter you use since that is what the manual calls for, but the longer filter will hold more oil I assume so that might explain some of the differences in the amount of oil the machine takes to fill it up. If I can find the longer ones I will probably use those because it has more oil capacity and more filtering capacity which will be better for the engine as it is nearing time for an oil change I believe.

Sears carries the longer ones as well as the short. I think they run about $10.00. I usually buy mine at the local repair center for most tractor brands and pay around $9.00

From what I have seen, you can save a bit of money if you use the auto application filter. I have seen where the Motorcraft FL 400 filter is a replacement for the Kohler filters at $2.77 each plus tax from Walmart. It is also available from Auto Zone. It is about an inch shorter than the longest Kohler filter. It's made in the USA by Purolator, I believe, unlike the Kohler which is not made in the USA. Might be worth considering.

Thanks, I will look into that.

Thanks for the information I too will look into these. I like to buy usa made products whenever possible and if it is cheaper that is even better.

It's only better if it is cheaper and works as good or better than the more expensive option /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I don't have the website info, but while I was looking for info on the Kohler oil filters, I found a site that compared the specs. The Motorcraft FL 400S actually has a finer micron filter capability and in automotive tests has one of, if not, the highest filter media capacity. The equivalent Purolator filter would be comparable. The "S' means that it has a Silicone anti-drainback valve. All in all, from what I have seen the 400S filter is superior in all respects! Finally, its bad enough that Kohler sees fit to use a Korean made starter on the CH730 but is it really necessary to use an India made filter? Makes me wonder where this engine really is built? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree and still stand by my statement. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have used motorcraft and purolator filters in my cars and trucks in the past and have had no problems with them. I consider them to be good filters, but I was unaware that they were made in the USA still yet as most manufacturing jobs are leaving the country. When I changed the filter in my pt the rubber gasket came off as I was removing it, it was maybe just a fluke but when changing filters I don't want to have to be trying to line up the gasket when reinstaling the filter. It is better even if it costs the same and works as good as the import, just my opinion.
