My father in law has a David brown 1200 that we hooked up a 72" 3 point snow blower to and I am having problems with what I assume is the pto clutch.
You cant get the pto to engage I have adjusted the pedal both ways no help.
Do they seize up with lack of use ?
The tractor has hardly been used in the last 5 years.
Any help would be appreciated.

The standard clutch/PTO set up uses 2 discs and 2 pressure plates stacked together. When you push on the peddle about half way down you disengage the drive disc, all the way down disengages drive and PTO discs.
You don't say if it is stuck or slipping???
Clutch discs like to stick to the pressure plate over time not being used.

Sounds like the PTO disc is stuck. Have you tried putting PTO in gear before starting?
You might be able to un-stick it by doing that and pushing the clutch in and out.

Going back to the early 70's, we had a 1200 series DB. From what I remember, it had a 2 speed pto and a hand clutch on one side of the seat with a spring loaded release. I think the clutch was typically left engaged with the 2 speed lever in neutral. When the pto was needed, the clutch was disengaged, the lever moved to high or low speed and the clutched engaged again. The 2 speed lever was curved and pivoted near the pto shaft. The info I looked up on the 1200 model mentions the hand clutch twice but not the 2 speed pto. Any help?

I did try to start it with the pto engaged, it would not start because the snow blower was turning at the same time.

Just a suggestion, again, you need to break the clutch plate loose. If your snow blower has a shear bolt or slip clutch protection, you might try to jam it with a few rolled up newspapers, (jams mine very well when working near the road). Then put the pto in the lower speed, disengage the clutch and try starting again. You are hoping the torque of the starter motor is enough to break the rust bond. If it over-torques the blower, either the bolt or slip clutch will protect the blower. If that doesn't work, there is always the LARGE wrench on a pto shaft connected to the tractor, with the tractor in the lowest gear and the brakes set and apply torque via the pto. Next is the disassembly of the pto clutch. Good luck!!!!
