PTO connection - TC33D

I've had this tractor a few years now, but almost every time I hook up an implement I have to wrestle with the PTO connection. I understand the splines have to engage properly when connecting the coupling to the PTO shaft, but once that is done shouldn't the connector slide in smoothly until it clicks into place? Mine always gets stuck just before it clicks. I have to completely remove it and try again a few times. Eventually it will slide in like butter and click. I try hold the release button in but that doesn't seem to help either. This happens with all of my implements. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe a piece of crocus cloth on the splines may help. Basically; deburr the splines

I have had the same problem before, not on my TC34DA though. Clean the splines throughly. Run your finger down each one. You will probably feel a rough spot at one or more places. I use a small file and file down the rough spot till it's smooth. File lightly and don't take off any more metal than is necessary. Grease it back up good. You can also clean out between the splines. When you do that it should work as good as new.

Clean the spines on both the tractor pto splines and implement pto shaft really well. I use wd-40 and paper towel or rags. Wipe off the excess. Apply light coat of oil. Do the same with the slide part of the pto shaft unless if already slides very smoothly. Any build up of dirt or grease will make them sticky and difficult to slide. Many people clean the tractor pto splines but tend to ignore the pto shaft.

I've found if I raise the implement, so that the shaft is level between the implement and the tractor pto, the engagement is much easier

I have always had that on my TC33D. I checked for burrs or what have you but didn't find any. Sometimes the balls in the shaft of the implement I use most get stuck. I spray them with WD40 or oil and jar them loose. Grease the splines. And, yes DO check for burrs in both the PTO shaft and the the implement PTO shaft.

Ditto what the others said.. check the tractor pto stub for burs / defects.. dito the same for the ID of the mower coupler.. don't take much metal to make an interference fit..
