I recently purchased a rotary mower from Land Pride. The push PTO detent to attach the drive line to the PTO shaft is made so you have to push on the small sharp end of the detent. It is a painful process at best. Has anyone else encountered a pto detent like this? Is there a remedy? All of my other equipment has flat sided detent with the spring built inside the mechanism.

I have no idea of the why, but I do have a possibility of a "work around" , Why dont you try epoxy gluing a penny to the thumb of an old leather glove. Now before you glue the penny, take the penny to a vise and open the jaws just enough so the majority of the penny is in thin air supported by just the edges, now hit the penny with a blunt punch or ball side of a small ball peen hammer or something. The idea is to make the penny slightly concave. Glue on the convex side of the penny to the thumb piece and hopefully this will allow you to push the button without pain and the slightly concave surface will reduce the tendency to slip off.. Of course I have not done this, and this is just a brain exercise, and worth just what you paid for it.. but hey it is an idea.:) Good luck in what ever you do.

Thanks! That could be workable. I find it difficult to believe that an American company would sell equipment like this and stay in business.

Would love to see a picture of what you have.

I bought a Landpride 5' RFM last season and it has a totally different mechanism...a concentric circular plate that gets pulled back. Very easy.
If it's new maybe the dealer could be of some help and maybe replace it with a different style?

I have a 6 foot KingKutter and it has the same pin. It needs to be a little longer and have more of a blunt end. I usually wear a pair of leather gloves when hooking it up. I don`t think the penny ideal will work because the pin has to be pushed in so far and the area is to small.

The dealer says that's the way they are all made. Landpride will not respond to my request for a remedy. Landpride's engineering department must be out of touch or directed to produce the cheapest product to increase profits. I certainly will not consider another Landpride product. Thanks for your input!
