I currently have an Agri-Fab tow behind spreader that I used prior to the B-7500. How much would I expect to pay for a spreader, and what size would I need for my tractor and property size. I guess I can still use the Agri-Fab, but I would like to have the PTO driven type. Any comments and type and experiences are appreciated.

Crown,

Do a search for seeder, make sure you click on all posts. You will find two recent threads there, one is seeder or spreeder for my bx2200 and spreeder implements? Anyway there is two good threads there that should give you lots of information. I personally like the Herd Seeder M96 three point. I have about two acres and two neighbors that use it also. It doesn't do the best with the chemical fertilizers but works great on the straight fertilizers. I have used it also for spreeding grass seed. Look at www.herdseeder.com.

Paid about $350.00 with freight and is fairly light so you can move it around

Mike,

You got me on that one. What I meant was is the fertlizers that have the weed killers in it such as Scott's does not work the best because it is more powderised.

Hope that clears it up.

Tractor Supply is running a sale on their fertilizer spreader in Texas.
May not be in your area now, but keep an eye out for the flyer.

Murph, that's what I thought you meant but wanted to be sure. The stuff that's powdery tends to bridge inside the hopper and then stops coming out, right?

Mike,

Not actually, it runs through pretty good but the problem is the spread pattern drops down to about 7 feet. The stuff is so light. Also if windy it does tend to blow. I will use that fertilizer but you just want to make sure that there is no wind, set the 3 point as low as you can and you will have to make more passes with it. Also and this is true with any spreader you will find that fertilizer will tend to blow more out one side of the spreader. I usually set the spreader for about half of what you want the then make two passes. One way then perpendicular on the second.

Hope this helps.

Got be careful not to use the weed eating stuff with new growth, or new seeds... you'll kill it fast. That is direct for the Scotts rep who chatted with me at Lowes last spring.
