Has anyone ever shortened a 3 row Johnson brand power bedder and used it for a tiller. I have one from when we raised tomatos and couldn't sell it. I would like to make it shorter to be used in the garden. It is currently 16' long and I would like to make it 5' long and use it on my Massey. If anyone has done this sort of thing and could give me some pointers I would be very grateful.

Why couldn't you sell it? Seems like it's worth a few bucks and should bring in enough to pay for a smaller one that you need.

I tried to sell it along with my planters, dump trailers, sprayer, and harvester. I had them for sale for over two years and nobody wanted the harvester or the power bedder. So if I could just shorten it up a bit I could have a tiller with some extra tines and some scrap steel for other projects. The pictures that I posted are not of my equipment but is similar. Mine is a litter older than the pictures posted.

How much were you trying to sell that thing for?? A 6 foot tiller could be had for less than 2K. What is the PTO requirment for that implement?? I think if I was closer, I would glady give you a 6 ft tiller and some scrap steel in exchange. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I ran it on one of my 90 horsepower Oliver 1850 perkins diesel tractors. The power bedder also requires remote hydraulics for the real assist lift wheels. I was asking $2000.00 O.B.O. and never got one call about it. All of my other equipment sold within the first couple of weeks except my harvester and power bedder. I would like to use it for a tiller because it is built so heavy duty unlike some of the smaller tillers that you can buy.

ocaj11 what would you use it for if we could do an exchange?

D80,

I have 60 acres of land, of which, approximately 20 acres is being mowed. Unfortunately, it's extremely rough with holes, ruts, and washouts. I need something to smooth all that out so I can replant some grass. That thing would probably be the ticket. Unfortunately, I only have about 45 horsepower at the PTO and I'm not planning a trip to Ohio anytime soon. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It's just hard to believe you couldn't get 2K for an implement of that size. I imagine it costs much more than that new.

Good luck whatever you decide. If we were closer, I would seriously consider working something out with you...

I bought it used about 15 years ago for $4,000. They were about $15,000 brand new.
