I only have 15 hours on my 790 so it could just be a matter of break in but I thought I would ask if this is normal. Sometimes when engaging the PTO it is difficult to pull up on the PTO handle all the way and engage it. I stop trying, let the clutch out to move forward alittle then try again and she goes right in.

Is this normal, I know I have had trucks with standard transmissions that sometimes did not want to shift in to reverse, so I would let the clutch out a little in 1st, try again and it would usally go just fine.

Any comments would be appreciated, also I never did get a chance to post a picture so I thought I would do it now.

Sounds pretty normal to me... The hi/low doesn't want to engage on the 1050 sometimes and I do the same thing...

How many RPM are you running whhen you engage that lever?

If running at PTO speed, try slowing the engine down to a thousand RPM.

Don't worry it's completely normal. Happens to my new 990 with 10 hours and our 1992 970 with 600. Just engage the PTO when stopped and clutch in. And don't forget to stop and press in the clutch before you disengage it too.

Thanks for the reply's gentlemen, it's nice to know it is nothing unusual.

Roy, I am dropping down to idle before trying to engage.

Slightly different deal here.. but the front wheel drive engagement is a pull up lever on my NH 1920.. and I usually have to do the same as you.. clutch out and edge forward or aft a little.. then it pops in easilly. ( though the pto lever is always smooth.... go figure ).

I know on the Deere's you can disengage and engage the MFWD on the go and under load. Sometimes I have a little difficulty going into 4 wheel drive but not usually.
