I got the 7200W PTO generator from Northern and made this frame to mount it to my YM1510's 3PH. I wanted it to take up as little floor space as possible when not in use. The detachable side arms provide horizontal stabilization and the 3PH keeps it from tilting back when resting on the side arms.

If I were doing this again, I'd put the lower link pins up an inch or so higher (turns out my lift arms only almost reach them), and I'd make all three casters swivel (I used a swivel caster in the center front, and two rigid casters in the rear). Otherwise, it seems to work pretty well.

I used a 3pt cary-all from tsc to mount mine.. works great... that's abck when tsc had them for 45$.. couldn't buy the steel for that now..

Nice job on the generator frame! I've never used a PTO powered generator; but does it bounce around that much to require horizontal stabilizers?

Mine doesn't.... the 3pt holds it solid like any other pto powered 3pt implement..

That looks like a big generator for such a small tractor> How well does it pull with the generator under full load. Have you calculated the fuel usage per hour under load. I also read that the PTO generators were really hard to keep the voltage stabilized since the tractors governor was not sensitive enough to take care of fluctuation in load. Any problems with that. Reason for all the questions, is that I was considering buying a PTO generator and after reading a previous thread on TBN about all the problem, I decided not to bother.

a 7.2k pto gen likely only needs about 15 pto hp to work at full potential.

As for votlage flutuations.. I'd be more concerned with freq fluctuations..and those are really really rpm dependent.. that said.. even with my 12.5kw pto gen on the backof my old 1952 ford 8n.. I've had -0- problems with clean power.. I use a graphing meter to check freq and voltage and both are near equal to my landline power... and that's with passive regulation as well. the heavier the load.. the more the hit.. however.. lower loads are near unafected.. the more extra pto hp you have, the better off you are if you plan to run at full load much o f the time.... that reserve plus the flywheel effect of the engine helps carry thru start up loads.

It would hold fine, but there's slop in the 3pt connections, and when it goes from no- or low-load to a higher load (like my well pump coming on), I didn't want one side to jerk up when the generator suddenly provides a lot more resistance.

That's about what I figured, and Northern says minimum 14 PTO HP for this model in particular. The YM1510 has 15 PTO HP, so this is a pretty good match for my tractor.

I haven't tried maxing it out yet.

Have you calculated the fuel usage per hour under load.

My guess is a little over a half gallon per hour, based on the usage I get running my finish mower. According to my electric bill, my average usage is only about 1kW, so it may actually be less than that.

I also read that the PTO generators were really hard to keep the voltage stabilized since the tractors governor was not sensitive enough to take care of fluctuation in load. Any problems with that. Depends on the tractor and governor I suppose. The generator has a needle gauge with a green region; at no-load you set the throttle to the top end of the green region and that's supposed to give the governor enough room to let the RPMs fall some. Since I haven't tried a really large load yet, I can't say whether this is a problem for me or not. Small loads are certainly not a problem, even when I run the engine at 1500RPM and use the "2nd" PTO gear.

After the new england ice storm in december, I lived with a (totally unreliable) 7kW gas-powered genset for many days that my brother-in-law resurrected from a state of neglect. So I figured my options were to buy a high-quality self-contained unit that would be unlikely to develop problems, or a PTO model. I looked at prices and bought a welder :D and a PTO generator.

Need to fix that slop! :) where you getitng it at/ bal ends or??
