- 2017 NH Workmaster 33. Previous tractor: NH TC24D
My first post. Been visiting as a guest for more than 10 years. I have benefitted greatly from reading posts here. From how to stay safe on my hills (so far) to how to run my equipment. Recently retired.
My first "real" tractor since we bought our 15 acres over 10 years ago was a New Holland 2002 tc24d with 62 hours used. Travelled to a JD dealer 400 miles away to get it pretty cheap, then had a loader put on by a local NH dealer. Anyway, I was pretty good at changing attachments, mainly a rotary cutter and a finish mower since I could rotate the PTO shaft on the tractor and got good at feeling the slight click that signified the splines were lined up.
A month ago, I traded that tractor in for a NH Workmaster 33, 2 years old but new at 2 hours. I can only say good things about both tractors. But there was a learning curve. The Workmaster, using an electrio-mechanical PTO, would not allow me to rotate the drive shaft to attach mowers.
I checked Tractor By Net and used a couple of suggestions which I want to pass along here. I used a black magic marker and put a solid mark on each drive shaft coupler where one spline was. This, along with using a crow bar in the drive shaft u joint allowed me to rotate the mowers and align the splines. What had been a frustrating hour and a half ended with success in about 3 minutes once I had the visual with the black marker.
Sorry for the super long post. My first one needed a bit more explanation. Just want to thank everyone at Tractor By Net for all of the help over the years.
This problem baffled me, and the solution made me Love my new upgraded New Holland again!
