PTO Issue on a 3032 E

I have had the mower deck off of my 3032 E for about 4 months now while I had the box blade on. When I re-attached it, the PTO won't engage. The light on the dash indicates that it is on but nothing turns. Doesn't sound like the spindle is trying to turn and just hung. ???

Anyone else have this issue before?

This is the mid-mounted mower or a rear mounted mower?

You have reconnected the PTO shaft correctly and completely?

that would be a rear mower, as the 3E models have no mid PTO options..

i would try to figure out which wire goes to the pto solenoid,
and check for loose connections. i am not in a position now to look,
but it could be towards the rear of the transmission,
if the switch is working, the dash light indicates the system is on,
but there may be an issue with power getting to that solenoid to
engage the pto..

i believe if you find that solenoid going to the pto, you could jump with 12v (the solenoid with the harness disconnected) and
if the pto comes on start tracing things backwards from there.

Gosh don't they? We've only just started to get them down here so I have no 'time' on the 3E's.

Your diagnostic of the PTO is a viable technique. Also check for corrosion between the solenoid coil and the shaft.
You can test the coil by taking it off and holding a screwdriver or steel rod in the centre hole. When switched "on" the rod will move due to the magnetic field energising.

Edit: Just rang my old shop. They have one on display but the mid-mower I'd seen was just 'stored' there. not connected... Who knew? Looked good though!

Not sure what the problem was but I got it fixed! Must have been holding my tongue wrong or using the wrong cuss words!

I actually took a pipe wrench and got the spindle to turn just a little. Must have been a contact somewhere because after about 5 minutes working with the bucket, I reached over and pulled the switch and it came on!

Thanks for giving it a shot with your thoughts. I called 2 different JD dealers and neither one had a clue. One wanted to load it up and bring it to the shop to run "diagnostics"! Also known as "how much can we get out of this guy!"
