Branson 2800h
I purchased a new 2800H tractor in June and the PTO light doesn't turn on when the PTO is engaged, also the safety shut down doesn't work when I am in the 540 rpm position and get up off of the seat. The shut down will work when in the 960 rpm position but the PTO light still does not work. Dealer said they called Branson and were told that they didn't hook it up in the new ones. I find that hard to believe. Does any one have any input on this? One more thing I found is that it is impossible to use the brakes one at a time to make a short turn due to the fact that the brakes and the forward and reverse pedals are on the same side as the brake pedals and I would need two right feet and legs to operate them at the same time. Can't use the cruise control because it shuts down when the brake is pressed. Any help on the above is appreciated.

You're right about the PTO light not being hooked up on the 2800H. I think the parking brake light is the same way. The seat switch probably only works in teh 960 position so it will cut off when a MMM is attached. To be honest, I'm glad it doesn't work with the 540 rear PTO.

I, too, wonder how I'm supposed to hit 2 pedals with one foot.....maybe heel and toe like the old road racers. At least we have an option to split the brakes. Some of the other brands only have a single brake pedal.

How is your new tractor doing?

I really love it. So far it is working just fine. I already have 38 hrs. on it and am getting ready to do the 50 hr. service on it myself. My dealer did give me the engine oil filter, air filter, fuel filter without charge. He did not give me the other filters because he was out of them at the time so I did pay for them when they came in. Also at the time that I bought it I told him that I wanted him to throw in a set of blades and a belt for the Woods finish mower and he did do that so I figured that covered the other filters. I know that the blades and belt were most likely at or more than a hundred dollars. I did find that Tractor Supply ( Traveller brand of Premium hydraulic and transmission fluid is an acceptable fluid since it meets the JD 20 specs and the JD 303 specs which I was told was OK. I have used the tractor with a pine straw rake to clear the property with. We have a lot of pines down here in Florida and the pine needles are really hard to keep up with. I am trying to get my 5 acres seeded and some grass growing before the rain quits. I did order the service manual so that I would have a good way of looking up any problems that do arise. The owner's manual really doesn't do a good job of showing you where to drain all the fluids since it has changed some of the drain points. Let me know if you find out anything on the different dash lights that don't work and I will do the same. Thanks for the reply.

The PTO light does not work on the 2400H either. I never paid any attention to seat switch working or not in the 540 since it was the second safety item I removed. I have no children around and I did not like the engine shutting down every time I shifted my weight to look over my other shoulder while backing up when mowing.

With a little crative foot work you can sit some what side saddle and use your left foot on the HST go pedals and your right foot on the brakes. I do this when plowing snow to help prevent the front from sliding when the blade it tilted and pushing a full load.

Yes Branson doesn't seem to be to hung up on the "you must use this oil". I used Mobil 424 since we have a large Mobil distributor locally and it was a very similar price for 5 gallon bucket Vs Farm & Fleet or TSC.

On my 2400H there are three drain plugs on the rear end. One on each rear wheel bell housing and one on the mid-mount PTO housing. They were painted yellow on my tractor.

FYI: Double check the hose routing from the FEL valve to the rear end. On mine one of the hoses was routed so that it prevented the left brake from returning fully. A couple of minutes with a wrench and this problem was solved.

Dealer told me that the same instrument panel is also used on some of the larger tractors. The lights in question are hooked up for those models. I think the one that bugs me the most is not having a parking brake light.

jonmerkel, is the service manual worth buying? I agree that the operator's manual sucks.

I don't know yet, I'm waiting for FedEx to deliver it. It is supposed to be here today but it is getting late and may not be here till the AM. I have Jury duty tomorrow so it will probably be evening before I get home. When I get it I will give you a run down on it. It should be pretty good since it is what the dealers use in their service depts. I will let you know when I know.

I got the service manual today and I would say that it is probably worth the price. It isn't going to win any awards for writing but it does have a lot of info in it that isn't in the owner's manual. It does have all of the torque values for everything and does a reasonable job of showing where things are. It does have the hydraulic schematic and electrical schematic in it, and it has drawings showing where everything is located. I like having it because it is the very thing that the dealers mechanic would have on his bench.

You can go online at bransonpartsdirect.com and get it through big reds tractors. They have it set up to order direct from Branson and they will drop ship it to you. The cost of the manual is 49.95 and 15.00 shipping. The web site is easy to use, just go to the manuals and pick it for the 00 series. The manual is for the 2400 and 2800 manual and HST tractors. Hope you like it.
