Relatively new to PTO implements and struggled a bit connecting a PHD to the tractor today. I know there is probably something in the JD manual but I thought I would ask the "pros" what y'all are using to make those PTO connections easier. Would something like wheel bearing grease work?

Thanks!

As you use it more, it gets easier to connect and disconnect.
Grease tends to collect dirt and get gummed up as it dries out so I don't use it. I flush off the PTO with any can of spray oil I have handy, and keep the screw on cover in place when not in use. This keeps it clean and lightly lubed.

It would appear you mean when putting the pto shaft on and off of the pto on the tractor. If that is correct, I often put just a little grease on the tractor pto shaft as I am greasing the lift arms. It is also important to oil the locking pins on the shaft on the implement. Also keep trash off of all splines. If you do not have a sleeve to slip over the pto shaft on the tractor when nothing is on it, get one and keep it on when no shaft is on there.

Now if you mean trying to get it all lined up and stand on your head while you whistle hoping you have it all together, practice, practice. But some grease helps that also. Be sure you grease the pto shaft that runs between the implement and the tractor in the fittings and take it apart and grease the sections where they slide together. You need it to slide to collapse and extend when being used but also when connecting or disconnecting. kt

I grease the shaft and use a pto cap when not in use.. i slip a plastic bag over the implement end and rubber band on..

After you do it 500 times and there is a lil wear ont he splines.. and a lot of practice under yer skin.. it's no big deal.

When you first 'walked'.. it was a task.. but now you are probably good at it.. etc..

What type/ kind of grease you use Chris?

The first time we put the MMM on our 1523, with out looking I just grabbed a tube and crawled under the tractor, turned out it was Lubriplate. :) It worked out good.
