I have a 2310D and noticed when using my 5' tiller in hard ground that there is a distinct growl that comes out of the the transmission area or clutch housing area. When tilling in soft soil, this noise is not able to be detected. Everything seems to be working okay when using the PTO for tilling, just this distinct noise. It doesn't occur when I have a mower hooked up to it. Just a tiller when under a heavy load. Any suggestions on what it might be would be appreciated.

Before we try to diagnose in your profile it says you have a 2210 and in your post it says 2310. Just need to know which one for sure we are talking about because they are very different machines. I would just guess off the top of my head that a 5' tiller in hard ground is just working it very hard....might be just hearing normal gear wine under a heavy load.
