pto on 675

on a 675 farm trac what would cause the pto to keep poping out of gear.

Make sure that the selector handle on the left of the seat for the PTO is locking into the correct position to give you the 540. If you go to the back left hand side of tractor and look at the PTO selector linkage, you will see an area where the linkage has what I believe to be a spring loaded ball that pops into 3 different positions. 1 position is 540, 1 is neutral, and 1 is ground drive PTO. Make sure you are getting locked in the correct position. Do not know if you know this or not, but when not using PTO, selector should always be run in the neutral position according to owners manual. HOPE THIS HELPS.

thanks tim d the plate the ball pops into was loose tightened it up all seems well.i adjusted the hand clutch, where i thought it should be.do you have a book that tells exactly how to adjust it?

Be patient with me and I'll try to get that info for you as I do have a manual. I have been busier than a three legged cat trying to cover do do on a frozen pond as of late.

This is taken out of owner's manual. Free play of PTO clutch lever should be 1" to 1.38". If adjustment is needed, loosen jam nut on linkage rod and adjust to get proper free play. The rod you will adjust looks to be the horizontal rod. The book did not show where to measure the free play but I would guess it would be at the tip of the handle. It also states to adjust transmission clutch free play first before adjusting PTO clutch. Transmission clutch free play measured at pedal is is the same as PTO clutch. I hope this helps. How do you like this tractor? I like mine, though the motor is not quiet.

it is my neighbor's tractor .i am fixing it for him.but i have used it more than he has.it has just 300 hrs on it .it has had 2 big problems .the 4 wheel drive support broke off and the pto will not stay in gear. other than that it is a real nice tractor.it is a 4x4 loader wth 2 remote valves.a lot for a low price .thanks for the help

i also found that the lever next to the trans. housing,would bend .i fixed it by welding a rod on it to steady it.
