My dad is having trouble getting the PTO on our 7800 to engage. When he turns the knob (while sitting in the seat), it doesn't engage. But then if he moves around in the seat it will kick on.. so we figured it was the safety switch defaulting. Which come to find out, isn't the problem.. We can not figure out why it engages sometimes, but then doesn't the next time.

He is becoming very frustrated as we are in the middle of planting milo. Also because we will be using this tractor to pull the grain cart during wheat harvest.. all which require a PTO.

So anyone that has any advice on what to do, or if this has happened to them before.. PLEASE respond!

Thanks!!

The seat switch won't keep the pto from engaging on a 7800. The seat switch only sounds the alarm when you get out of the seat to warn you the pto is turning. Most likely, the pto switch is going bad. I have seen lots of these work intermittently when they go bad. It is pretty easy to replace. Just be sure to assemble the knob parts correctly. I attached a picture of the parts so you can see how it comes apart. Start by screwing out the yellow center of the knob. The rest should be easy to figure out. The part number for a new switch is RE161081. Good Luck!
