The shaft under my new Branson 2400H just has grease on it. Should there be some sort of protection on it? Maybe a sleeve or something? I can't ever seeing me using it, but if I were ever to sell, I would not want to find it damaged or in bad shape. Any input about my output would be appreciated.

If you have grease on it you have more than most of us. :D I don't think I've ever seen a PTO cover or a damaged shaft, so I wouldn't worry.

Every tractor I have owned has had a screw on or pressure fit cap/cover. I keep them on when not in use to keep dust and dirt off the shafts and so they stay greased. A greased PTO shaft is much easier to use when sliding on a implement shaft, especially since I am getting older.

I think I like the idea of trying to protect it. Maybe I'll find something at the hardware store. Maybe a piece of tubing.

My Kubota M6040 has a side-on pvc cover. My previous tractor(Ford 1700) had a cover exactly like shown in Dennis's post - #4. I grease up the output shaft, filling all the splines and push the cover over this mess. When I remove the cover its a little gooey but no rust, corrosion or etching.
