I just acquired this MF1020 with a rear mount rotary mower. I used the mower, on and off, for about 2 hours.

Now when I use the mower, the PTO keeps disengaging on it's own. It's not so much like the clutch is slipping - it just drops out completely. The PTO lever never moves, so I don't think it's slipping.

When I push in the clutch, I hear a slight "thunk". Then I can release the clutch and the PTO engages again. But only until I encounter a slight load (like grass!) or if the engine RPM goes too high.

Sound familiar to anyone? Is there some kind of overload or overspeed protection that needs adjustment? Is there some kind of engagement adjustment? I don't mind tearing it apart, but right now, I'm not sure what to look for.

Hi Again I just wanted to tell you I had a real bussy day had to rebuild the power rack on a MF1135 so I was quite bussy sorry I will have some time in the morning I have to go do some bush hoging tomorrow so while I wait for it to warm up I will look that up ok again I am sorry

If that tractor has a dual stage clutch, the PTO drive disc, in the clutch, could be slipping, that means it has to be rebuilt or replaced. Repair would be the better alternative, because parts for these tractors from MF would cost prohibitive.

I'm not very familiar with 1020. Doesn't it have a single stage clutch & a transmission driven pto? At any rate, if I understand your problem correctly, it sounds like a faulty overrunning clutch. These are to prevent the mower from propelling the tractor when you step on the clutch. Failure is fairly common, particularly if pto has been subjected to shock loading. The only cure is diassembly and replacing the damaged components.

Hi I'M back again I have the Mirofische on your 1020 and I do not beleive it is in the clutch I beleive it is in the Pto control there is a detent pin that keeps it in position and I think that it is worn or missing it could also be the spring but there is one more item that could cause this problem but it is not the first choice I would make there is a lever it would be number 25 on the drawing it is in side the center housing that is used to engage the PTO and the little pin on the end of it could be worn now the first sugjestion I made could be completed with out breaking the tractor into it is seviced from out side the case under the PTO lever I have included a picture of the drawing it is not real good but I have included all the part numbers and there locatin I also have remarked all the numbers on the drawing so you could find then this will get you up and running if you need more info or addvise just E-Mail me and I will be glad to help

UPDATE...

Well I traded in the old Massey and bought a new Kubota B7800. Thanks to all who replied (especially tweld for the documentation!).
