OK, guys, please help... I recently bought a JD 2520 when my older small 316 's engine died. (recently moved and was cutting 6 Acres with it). I am currently in the process of modding my old 47" snowblower from my 316 to work on my new 2520. So far I have made a great mounting bracket for the snowblower to fit on my new tractor. I am now in the process of trying to figure out how to connnect to the mid PTO on my 2520. My first thought was that I would just take off the pulley from the driveshaft on the blower, put on a yoke and long driveshaft to the mid PTO. Now, the more I think about it, am I going to have problems with the speed of the PTO on the new tractor?? I thought it might be a little too fast, so I would be able to drop down the throttle if necessary. but, I guess it depends on the relationship of the pulleys on the old 316 and the snowblower. And I don't know the speed of the drive on the old 316 to start with!!! any help or thoughts would be greatly appriciated!! snow storm supposed to be coming here in PA!!

I think those small motors run about 3500 rpm... Do he pullies lookm like they are one to one ratio? If so your mid mount PTO may be slower.... My Mid mount pto on my Kubota is 2500 rpm.

Kubota does a quick mount for a front blower where they extend the mid pto forward with a long shaft. But connect from the blower to that extension with a connecting shaft.

Good luck..

i will have to check tomorrow, but I am pretty sure the pulley on the blower is smaller than the tractor. So, if it is true that the engine runs at 3500, that would mean that the snow blower was running even faster than that, right??? If that is the case my new tractor's PTO is only going to run it at 2400 RPM.

looks like the pulley on the snowblower is smaller than the old tractor.. Anyone else got any thoughts or ideas on this setup???

If the pulley on the SB is smaller than the old tractor.. and the old tractors pulley is similar to the new tractor.. then i agree.. the new tractor will probably spin it at 2400.. and you will be a bit low on rpm. Seems you need a smaller pulley on the sb.. or larger pulley on the tractor.. or a 1:2 gear step up box.. or at least something like a 1:1.5 gear box.. and then find a sweet rpm on the tractor to make it work.

actually no pulley on the new tractor, running it right off the PTO,

I have finally finished the project, I had a custom driveshaft company make me a pto shaft, and it works perfectly... only problem is that the snowblower is running at the pto speed 2100, which is a little slow to really blow the snow any distance, In the spring, I plan on playing with the sprokets on the side of the blower blade to increase my speed... I'd also like to put a hydraulic piston on the older blower to move the chute... I will get pictures posted as soon as it gets a bit warmer... but my custom bracket and driveshaft work great on the new 2520.

A gear box , like my post mentioned, would help... may be easier than pulley sizing and sprockets.. might get one out of a scrapped mower.. etc..
