Last week the PTO stopped working on my Cub Cadet 2160. Ill try to give as much information as I can with what happened. I was cutting the grass and heard a weird noise I stopped the engine and looked in it and there is a plastic shield that goes around the back of the motor around a shaft and that had come off and was flying around. I ended up cutting it off then moved the tractor under it I saw a black wire probably around 9" long and about 16 ga. I have not been able to figure out where this is from and the PTO will not engage. If you need to know anything else, where this wire came from or a way just to get it to work it would be appreciated. Thx

Common logic would tell me that something came loose and pulled the wire out of the PTO. If that is the pigtail going to the PTO, you might be able to connect the wires together. If the wire was pulled out of the PTO itself, you might be in trouble. That is my best guess.

Are you sure the wire is black. The only black wires on the wiring diagram go to the low oil light and from a fuse to the key switch.

That's why I asked I didn't black wires in it. And I cant find any wires with loose ends and the one going into the pto is there and I followed them back and all are there. It is quite frustrating to me.

My PTO clutch had two wires. You can test the clutch by putting 12 v to the wire. I thought that most of them came with two wires in a plug. I think the reason for this is that the clutch might not be grounded good enough.

Trace back up the wiring harness and see if there are two wires going to the clutch. According to the schematic, you have a red and a blue. The blue is the ground wire for the clutch, and I am betting the red wire got ripped off.

I found another picture in the service manual that shows where all the wires are located on the tractor and it shows another black wire for the engine ground.
