Hi, all. I have a newer L2800 that I took in a few weeks ago for its first service (it has a whopping 41 hours on it). Since I got it back, the PTO will not disengage, it is constantly turning. Also, the 3 pt hitch doesn't seem to have much lift range or power. What did they screw up?

TIA

Mike

I just knew someone was going to ask that...I haven't talked to them yet. The PTO disengages with the clutch, but engages as soon as the clutch is engaged, no matter what position the PTO lever is in.

You can turn the tractor OFF, grab the PTO and rock it back and forth until it moves freely, that has worked for me.

The problem has been talked about a couple of times and some say it's the linkage which needs adjustment... other say lube... I personally think it's internal binding (but I'm on my own with that thought.)

What year did you buy it? Most of the early models have this safety "issue".

As for the 3 point hitch... does the FEL work fine? (not knowing if you have one or not) you might have air in the system, have you check the return hose (that has cracked on many L2800/3400.) Look for cracks in the bend on the hose (1-1/2" or so) by your brakes. Cycle back and forth several times should purge it (?) .

I would have the dealer "fix" it since it was not doing it before they serviced the tractor (even though I'm pretty sure that they did not cause it... it is just one of the "issue" with L2800 - Like the suspension seat locking up).

If it was like mine, no, you do not have to have anything attached to the PTO for it to continue to run. It just doesn't shut off when you move the lever from on to off... (lever connects to a cable that moves another lever by the transmission, which is attached to a (not so strong) spring)

The worst case, for me, was when I put the tractor away with the tiller still attached... someone move the lever on then off (as far as I could figure it out.) I came back after two weeks, started the tractor to let it warm up, let out the clutch and left a nice trench in tractor shed before I was able to stop it.

Today I found that my PTO is not disengaging either. The control lever moves but it feels like the cable is not being pulled by the spring on the transmission lever. I suspect the lever on the trans is sticky. I have to dig into this one tomorrow with a big can of kroil and some cable lube. Bummer is the tractor is now out on the muddy woodlot instead of the barn. So it goes, huh!?

Question... How much energy would the PTO take up with nothing attached? Would it make travel in high gear (HST) sluggish? I had a long, slow and noisy trek across town yesterday going from the barn out to the woodlot.

Jon, is this on a Kubota L3010? Most of the problems with pto not cutting off has been with L2800 (and I guess L3400?).

With no load on the pto, it doesn't really use any noticable power, at least for me when I run around with it on. And there really wasn't any extra noise or vibration... you might have more going on then just the cable???

The lever attach to the transmision is not an easy place to get to. I had the seat off when I took this photo.

Jon, is this on a Kubota L3010?

It's on the 3010... Crawling around in the dirt this morning I found the spring around the transmission lever has come off. I was able to bump the lever back into neutral but the pesky spring needs a bit more persuasion than could be rendered with it sitting in a ditch. Tomorrow I'll get a better chance to resecure the spring and squirt more kroil into the cable housing.

I had same problem with my L2800. Found that L2800 has a service advisory for the PTO cable binding: PSB-2007-027. It includes a newly designed bracket and cable. I had to pay for mine, will be covered if you are still under warranty. Works fine, at least for now.
