PTO reverse adapter?

   / PTO reverse adapter? #11
I Just happened to notice this thread and for Ideas, here's a photo of the one I used on Max. It was a commercially built unit that I found in Canada several years ago. It can be front mounted as this one is, or rear mounted. I front mounted it so I didn't have to remove it to run the bush hog on the back in summer. The pto sprocket just runs on the backside of the chain so it drives the shaft to the blower in the opposite direction. As you can see, it's pretty simple unit and shouldn't be hard to fabricate. Here is the link If you want to see the whole thing.

I like the simplicity of the reverse box for the PTO to drive a rear mount blower up front. It's cool. Didn't know it was that simple of a concept. I have a 3 point blower but never use it because it is not user friendly one bit. This has me thinking now. How many steady bearings do you have on the shaft from the rear to the front.

I use a pto reverser on my lawn mower to run a 47 snowblower. It was $150 on ebay. The other option was a more expensive parallel gearbox that drove the blower fan directly from the mower's pto. That would require a different (longer) driveshaft, too. I already had the extra short 20171217_162226.jpgshaft from a garage sale. These appear there once in a while. Ratio is 1:1. It's a John Deere part made for older 47s used on the F-900 mowers. The angle iron mount is now bolted to the lift arms. C-clamps worked just fine, though !

I haven't replied sooner because I found a better way to beat the snow. Go to Florida! We arrived yesterday afternoon, 75 degrees but only 53 this morning.

I have 1 center bearing with a universal joint as the shaft changes direction slightly underneath. I lucked out on the shaft, I had bought an International tractor that was used on construction and had a sweeper on the front. I sold the tractor and the guy didn't want the broom so I took it off. Another guy came along and bought the sweeper to mount on the BACK of his tractor???? So I sold it to him without the shaft, sprockets, etc. and he never came back after them, so I guess it must have worked.
