PTO RPM Speed L4060

The RPM Speed on the PTO is digital on my L4060. My Case IH had an analogue gauge with a PTO speed locator. What RPM should I run when cutting with my 84 inch finish mower?

Both of my tractors have analog tachs, but I thought that tractors with digital tachs had a light that comes on when you reach the recommended RPMs for the PTO. What does your manual say?

You will get your best cut at the highest tip speed so 540 rpm. Lots of people say they run slower and feel they do an excellent job but on my mowers high tip speed is visible on the lawns.i believe the SAE spec is plus or minus 5%. Manufacturers should take that into account because racha aren't accurate, especially the old mechanical tach. I run my L5740 rotary cutter about 555 but pay attention to greasing the driveline and heat of the gearbox. Not sure how your tractor is because it is a later model than my L5740 but my M135GX has a RPM limiter dial. I can dial the engine speed yo match what I want for PTO freed and the computer will always keep that speed plus or minus a few RPM until it runs out of power capability, a really nice feature.

My L3240 has a gauge that shows the pto rpm. My pto 540 is at 2700 rpm. If I am mowing the field it does a plenty good job at 2000 rpm, but if mowing lush yard grass there is a big difference between 2000 and 2700 rpm.
