I have recently purchased a mitsubishi d1500 and the pto runs counter clockwise (reverse). I am needing to use a brush hog with it if possible. What do I need to do to make this possible. Is it safe to turn the blades over so while the pto is backwards, will it still cut. Is it safe to use a brush hog with the reverse pto.

Thanks

Depending on the brush hog I've read where you can sharpen the backside of the blades.

If you search hard enough you may find a reverser, but expect, if available (likely only used) to pay big bucks, somewhere in the $500 plus range.

Or, not sure if ever made, you may find reverse spinning brush hog.

I had a Kubota B6000E (two of them actually), I found the reverser for it which converted to six spline clock wise spin.

I also had the original tiller and finish mower which were both reverse spinning.

Joel nailed it.

Here's the reverser he was talking about on the back of my B6000E.

One would have to ask......... especially with a company as competent as Kubota, what the heck were they thinking ??????

Farmall Cubs and some Kubota;s also ran CCW I was looking for a gearbox for a cord wood saw one day a few years ago and while thumbing through a catalog I saw a reverser for Cub and I think Kubota,If I remember right it was Horton and was sold by Eastern Bearings.

yep.. and I've seen a brush hog mower setup to spin backwards as well.

couple options.. all expensive though! or lots of wrenching.. IE.. finding a mower that has flat blades / blade carrier that you might get away with flipping them.. and then assume the gearbox likes it... not to mention it will be hard to find a reverse ORC..

hope the tractor was cheap!

I'm not sure how you are looking at your PTO. Standing at the rear of the tractor, at least on mine, [Int.454 1972] the PTO rotates ccw, the revers of the engine. I just checked with my repair manual to make sure. I'm perty sure that ccw is the standerd for AG tractors. I will check this out tomorow, just to be certain.

If the tractor has a smaller, non-standard PTO output shaft, the speed may well not be the 540 RPM standard. You should look into that. Bush Hog and other cutter manufacturers have multiple spindle rotaty cutters with counter-rotating blades. Maybe you could match up blades the same length, thickness and shape that are a mirror image of yours.

Most of the machines with CCW PTO's are gray market tractors that where never ment to come here. The B6000 is one of only maybe 2-3 models with CCW PTO's that Kubota did bring here themselves... but this was 30-35 years ago before this market had even begun to develope.

Rats, I checked out the rotation of my PTO, It's CW, I've been under the hood fixing engines so long that I think of them as turning CW, not CCW as vied from the back witch makes my PTO the reverse rotation of the engine CW.
