The dealer said he replaced the PTO seal in my Massey 245 prior to delivering it but that only stopped it from leaking when not turning. I'm slinging a little bit of fluid around when actually turning the PTO. Don't know if he bought a cheap seal or just damaged it when installing it.

It looks like all I would need to do to replace it is unbolt a few bolts to remove the plate over it, pull the old seal, pop in a new one and rebolt the cover. Thats what it LOOKS like...but I've been deceived by looks before.

Sorry for all the dummy questions but my Dad passed away last year and there's nobody else I know who knows anything about tractors.

It COULD be a little more involved....Could be as simple as a bad new seal, or it might be a worn surface on the PTO shaft, or worn pto shaft bearing.

You'll need to remove a good part of the hydraulic/tranny/rear end oil before you pull the PTO shaft.

Not the same, but similar to a problem I encountered with my MF 85. I replaced some axle seals (inner) and within a couple/few weeks, they began leaking again. I didn't tear into it again as it was so much work, but I surmise that the axle surface at the point of contact w/ the seal was worn just enough to prevent a tight seal. Hopefully your fix will be easier.
