I own a New Holland TC 45D hydrostatic drive tractor and lately the PTO shaft continues to turn after the control lever is in the disengaged position. As such, the attached implement in this case a TPH toto tiller, continues to turn unless lowered to the ground.
I'm concerned about possible safety issues. Is there a quick fix or do I need to involve the dealer? This unit is 12 years old and has about 1600 total hours. It's been a great tractor with no mechanical problems.

sounds like the PTO clutch/brake needs to be replaced. I would get the service manual and trouble shoot before splitting it. I think the tractor needs to be split to replace it.

I just had my PTO clutch brake fixed and the guy did it without splitting the tractor in half. He had to remove the floor pan and a couple of covers, pins and snap rings but it is possible to do. He had maybe 8-9 hours in the R&R. If anyone was details of how it was done I will get the process he used and post.
