I purchased a used pole hole auger yesterday. The shaft guard is metal and dented in so it won't telescope in/out. The only thing I can figure is trying to take it off the shaft and beating the heck out of it until I can get it apart, but I still don't think I can ever get it to slide freely again. I would like to just replace it, being the safety conscious person I am. So, two questions...
First, cost: TSC has two models that run $80 and $120. Are the guards seriously that expensive? That's almost half the cost of a new shaft. Is there somewhere I can get them less expensive, even if I have to order it online?
Second, compatibility: Will the newer shafts work on the older square pto shafts? The one I have looks pretty small, maybe an inch or so on each side (square).
I hate those cursed guards, the one on my brush hog is the biggest pain in the rear end when it comes time to grease the yokes. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I realize the importance of having it there. The last thing I want is for someone (or me) to get hurt helping me dig holes. Thanks all,
Matt
