I recently installed a Pat's Quick Hitch and now my PTO shaft for my rototiller is too short to connect to each other. Is there anywhere to buy just the tractor side of the PTO shaft, even if I had to cut it down? I looked at TSC and all they had was a full series 4 PTO shaft to the tune of $329. I thought about just getting a PTO extender but that won't do it. 20200906_142834.jpg

Check the local dealers, gotta be an old shaft sitting somewhere

No idea where you are located but TSC here is about same price to often higher than local shop I deal with. Here Agrisupply would be best option for prices on pto units.

According to your picture I'm guessing that you have three cornered pto shaft. Any agricultural supply store that handles pto's should be able to sell you a piece of pto pipe the right size and length. You should also be able to purchase the proper piece of guard for the pto. If the shaft is welded to the yoke then it might be cheaper just to buy the whole shaft but my experience has been that the three cornered shaft is most times just pinned into place. You just remove the pin and drill holes into the shaft and replace the pin in the yoke.

You may well have the standard three cornered PTO shaft but I think the shaft comes in different sizes. You need to know if you want the inner shaft, the outer shaft, or both.

My local dealer just got me a Bare Co series 6 pto shaft for $242.
Bare Co USA - P.T.O. INDEX
Bare Co has most anything you can think of for pto shafting.
I ordered a AB6150 and then cut 11 inches off of it for my brush hog,as a result of not maintaining the slip clutch and getting tangled up with a stump which twisted the pto shafts and split the tractor end coupling.

PS. you should have about 1/3 of your shafting overlapping in the operating mode if at all possible.

As was stated most all of the Italian tri-lobe PTO shafts are pinned and most any good implement shop will have bare tubes on hand. Just be sure to match up the old and the new as the sizing is so close on some they will seem the same but be just a few thousands off and not fit. Especially if the inner and outer tubes mixed together in a bin. Learned that lesson the hard way.

A couple things to consider is, the tri-lobe tubes will one slide into each other in one position. This is to ensure that the U-joints are phased correctly. This brings me to the next point, if you end up just replacing the tubes, make sure the U joints are phased correctly.

IMHO when utilizing the tri-lobe pto shafts it is impossible to slide the telescoping shafts together with u-joints yokes not in phase as ""in ain't happening"" due to the orientation of the tube hole in yokes

Thanks for the input. I called the dealer I bought the tractor and tiller from, they can sell me a longer tractor side shaft for $93. They said it should work and that they knew exactly what the issue that was caused by the Pat's Quick Hitch. Hopefully it does the trick.
