I have not had the need nor opportunity to use any attachments requiring PTO operation. That is changing pending the arrival of a Loftness 841S snowblower.

I have a few questions regarding the PTO shaft.

PTO shafts that I have seen in photos have telescoping plastic guard sheaths over the rotating inner shaft. There is also a chain attached to the guard. what is the purpose of the chain?

The chain helps keep the plastic guard from rotating while the PTO is in operation. I also use it on my Bush Hog to keep the PTO shaft out of the dirt when it's not in use by wrapping it around the mast cross-member.

thank you sir.

RFB, hook the chain to something on the tractor. Sometimes i run my chain up around the top link and hook it back to itself. Just run the impliment up and down to ensure the chain has a small amount of slack in it, and that it does not bind.

That's good advice (where were you last summer) besure to check it before you run the PTO. Wish I would of thought of that last year before I picked up the bushhog and then the chain broke and yep the little yellow thing turns rather quickly at 540 rpm!
