PTO Shaft Sizes?

We are selling a Howse rear mower. A fellow came out today to buy it but it turned out that the distance between the teeth on the female end of the mower is 1 3/16". He has a New Holland/Ford mower which requires 1 3/8".

Is it common to have different PTO shaft sizes on different brand tractors?
Are adapters readily available?

I'm not sure I understand. Where is this 1-3/16" measured, and how many teeth?

Six teeth.

The measurements are the distance between the inside edges of the any one of the 6 teeth to the inside edge of the opposite tooth within the female coupler. By inside edge I mean the side of the tooth facing toward the center of the coupler. The 1 3/16" is not only the measurement we took but is identified in the Howse parts manual for the shaft.

This is on the end of the drive shaft coming off the mower gear box.

I'm stumped. I've seen six spline 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" adapters, and six spline 1-1/4" to 1-3/8". But 1-3/16" is a new one one me. I'm wondering if maybe yours was actually a 1-1/8" that's now showing 1/16" of wear(?).

In any case, you should be able to split the yoke, and simply replace the current female with a standard 1-3/8" female. Any farm store should have a selection of PTO repair parts from which to select the proper female fitting. Or just order the one you need here.
