PTO spins after disengaged!

Ken, the PTO clutch/brake is just engaged with hydraulic pressure when you set the lever to ON. The same diverter valve that diverts fluid to the FEL also diverts 0.8 gpm flow to run the PTO clutch. When you place the lever to ON, you are just opening another valve that's directly below your seat on the top of the transmission casing. That valve takes the diverted fluid and applies it to the clutch. I guess that valve could be leaking and allowing some small pressure to the clutch, but without pressure to the PTO clutch, the clutch would have to be malfunctioning to engage the PTO.

I wish I could be more help, but the system is mostly enclosed in the transmission housing and I don't know how you could test it any better than your description of how you already have checked with your tiller. I think I'd use it a little longer to see if it got worse or better before doing a major repair that requires disassembly.

Thank you Jinman.. I def. take a look for any fluid leaking. Even though the pto spins on it's own.. this weekend it didn't spin the tines on tiller when disengaged.. I still shut it down all the way when hooking/unhooking up.

Ken, I didn't mean leaking on the outside of the valve. I just thought the internal spool might be leaking a little and letting some of the pressure through to the clutch causing it to partially engage. It sounds though like it only happened after some pretty heavy use, so the clutch just might do that only when it's hot. Hope so. . .
