It seems that I am now unable to get the PTO to engage while the tractor engine is running. The picture shows the tactor's PTO clutch level and the PTO engage lever. Normal operation is to lift the clutch lever (long lever w/ spring in middle) to disengage the clutch then move the PTO lever horizontally to left for normal or right for ground speed PTO. Should be done quickly and Clutch Lever back down as fast as possible.

Problem is I can't move the PTO lever to the left and engage, it just grinds the gears. I must turn off tractor and engage then start tractor, that just not safe enough for me when using the rotary cutter.

Question is, can I adjust that linkage for the clutch lever and expect improvement?

Thanks,
Charlie

If you are grinding gears; clutch is not releasing; hopefully you have enough adjustment on clutch linkage to allow it to release.

I agree.. clutch is not releasing due to adjustment.. or it is otherwise dragging.. like stuck from rust or oil ( if it's a wet clutch.. look to the linkage.. ).. I'm not familiar with that machine..but that looks to be some sort of 2 stage clutch setup... and probably dry at that..

Good Morning,
I agree with Soundguy, Im thinking two stage clutch, there should be an adjustment procedure for clutch adjustment along with an access cover on the side of the clutch housing. On my Massey I believe it was something like .040 on the three bolts within the housing. Its a bit of a pain but that may be your problem !

Yes I agree, clutch not releasing somewhere, whether 2 stage or independent.
Adjustment will hopefully fix it.
