Although my Century 3040 tractor has a little over 200 hours on it the PTO was never used. I just took the plastic shield off today. I noticed the pto shaft constantly turning while the tractor was running with the PTO lever disengaged. I can hold the shaft with my hand and it will stop turning while I am holding it. Is this something to be concerned about or is this normal for the Century/Branson tractors ?

That's pretty much normal for a lot of tractors... it's just the friction/oil drag in the driveline causing the shaft to turn... nothing to be alarmed about at all.

Yeah same with my tractor, My Zetor tractor has the same problem. It won't stop turning. I don't understand why but thats normal.

I just noticed today that after I adjusted my clutch my PTO shaft doesn't turn when not engaged. It works the way it's supposed to now.

While disengaged the PTO will stop under slight load (holding it with your hand) but it should stop.
