2012 mahindra 6110
I just purchased a new 2012 mahindra 6110 shuttle w/cab. Is there any way to prevent PTO from starting up full blast or is there a way to start it slowly. Even with tractor at it's lowest rpm it snaps a #8 bolt in my bush hog most of the time. Dealer says thats normal. I don't buy that . Anyone can help I would certainly appricate it.

Is the engagement of the PTO mechanical?? Or hydraulic??

its mechanical , Has button on dash and lever to pull by left leg. both has to be engaged before pto will operate

If you're engaging the PTO at the lowest RPM (no more then 1000 RPM and a little less is better), that grade 8 bolt shouldn't snap.
Does this happen with any other implement driven by the PTO? If not, the issue may be with the cutter rather then the tractor.

cutter is new and ive made sure it turns freely. I couldn't belive the dealer said this is "normal". I wonder if anyone else has this problem? seems to me like there should be some way to start the pto slow instead all at once. Oh well, thanks for your time. I appricate you.

Its not normal...your dealer is either uninformed or full of crap....if your " left hand engage" is like mine ('02 6000), you can "bump" it a little at a time till your mower spins up...I have a 7 brush cutter and it has never done that before (although I do have a slip clutch on the mower...it never has slipped..). I suggest you tell your dealer to give you a gross of those #8 bolts if its normal....BobG in VA

Good Mornin Bob,
Boy, Im not familiar with that tractor but I have never heard of such a thing as shearing grade #8 bolts on start up ! And I think its even more rediculous that the dealer says this is normal... :confused2:

I would think a call to the manfacturer or another dealer in the area might get you better results ! ;):)

i think it's odd using a gr8 bolt as a shear bolt.

I looked at mahindras many years back and they had some sort of electric solenoid engaged pto.. it was an all or nothing deal and I passed ont hem for that reason.. looks like they may have progressed a lil bit.. but how much?

The older "big" ones were never solenoid..it was an independent lever on left side which activated the PTO clutch...my 6000 also came with 540 and 1000rpm pto....looks like they may have re-gressed instead....BobG in VA

:confused:Using a grade 8 bolt for a shear bolt sounds not to be right to me. Grade 2 yes, Grade 5 sometimes when the MFR recommends it. Grade 8, Never. Too much chance of damaging something either on the tractor or the implement. I would check the
paper work on the implement to check what they recommend. The dealer may full of it or uniformed.
