Hello fellow members. I have had this old cordsaw sitting around for over 10 years. Never used one but came across this one with good bearing and frame so here it sits. I was wondering how fast they should turn. Thinking about converting it to a hydraulic drive and placing it alongside by processor to handle the small stuff. Have plenty of hydraulics just curious how fast to operate it at. Thanks for looking. CraigView attachment 445131

They turn pretty slow especially since it appears to have Babbitt bearings.

Rpms needed is determined by the dia of the saw. I believe Cooks Saw Mfg has specs for saw speed. You might have to search their site for the info.

Interested in this build. Hand only owned one. Was thrown in the deal when I bought a tractor after the tractor was loaded the guy told me to take it. Then I got rid of it 2 weeks later.

I don't know much about them so I'm interested in this. I would thing its needs to be lower rpm because of the size of blade

I have two of them, you don't have to run them very fast, but I agree with running them off the PTO is better than hydraulics...

Belt pulleys I believe run about 1200 RPM.

PTO drive is probably a good way but not necessarily easier for me. I have the hydraulic power existing in my processor and this will be set up near it. Thinking a hyd wheel motor driving a bearing block supported shaft with pulleys and belt setup to drive the cordsaw pulley. Just really don't want to rely on hooking up a tractor to the saw. Just want to get the rpm close to start with and then can flow adjust speed. as needed. Was thinking around 900 rpm myself for that blade.

Well, I never run my tractor anywhere near pto speed, when I'm running one of my buzz rigs...
