How can I get rid of my juniper shrubs/bushes (what ever) about 4 to 5 feet in diameter x 18" tall. I don't know how big the roots are. I only have a FEL on a BX1830 so should I just hire someone with a bigger tractor or do you think I can chip away at them with my loader. I can get to opposite sides of each bush (6 bushes). Thanks for your comments

Did just that at my moms over Memorial weekend. Hers were bigger yet and quite overgrown. Used a chain and tow strap with my 4X4 truck (didn't have the tractor with me). A couple of wraps of chain around the base and they pop right out. On the biggest one, I had to get a short running start and let the strap do its thing. Keep bystanders back!

If you have to resort to digging, plan on a mess /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you live near a farm/tractor supply store, you might check out a sub-soiler. It's got one big tooth that you might be able to uproot the bushes with. They cost about $100 or so and fit on the 3pt hitch. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Bike,

I took a chain wraped it around the base, put the other end on the FEL hook, put the BX in low, 4wd, and pulled them out. That little BX sure can pull. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I spent most of yesterday pulling buckthorn with my BX 1800. Just wrap the chain around the trunk (may have to get creative to make sure the chain binds on the trunk) Attach the chain to a bar on the 3 point hitch. In 4 wheel drive pull and lift the 3 point hitch. I can pull 2 or more inch trees out of the ground.

Please be careful pulling from any point on the tractor than the drawbar. If you get the 3PH high enough (any where above the center of the rear axle housing) and pull hard you could go over backwards.

The drawbar is below the axle so it can't pull you over backwards.
