Thought I would see if anyone had ideals about my hydraulic's. I have a '93 1035 M/F. I had to disconnect the pump lines when I replaced the clutch a couple months ago. Now I have to bleed the pump every time I go to use the tractor. I used it hard for 4 hours this weekend and after just 30 minutes sitting with the engine off the hydraulics wouldn't work till I bled it again. I bleed it at the outlet of the pump and you can see the air bubbles coming out. It never gave a problem before. I replaced the hydraulic fluid and filter back in the summer.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere, probably on the suction side of the pump since you don't see fluid leaking anywhere.

Agree with Kenny.
Got to be a leak maybe when you took it apart?
Were there any "o" ring or something that could have fallen out when you re-attached the lines? Maybe something under the suction flange?

Ditto both the other guys comments.. suction side leak.. and I'd look a tthe connection to the pump.. or other associated intake plumbing.. etc.

appreciate the replies, and you are all right there. I got home early today and went back to basics of checking everything. Started it up, no hydraulics. I had no leaks on the suction side but also I had no fluid. the main feed comes from the bottom of the infront of the rearend, the filter is mounted upside down a few inches above that point. I upscrew the filter and fluid flowed from the line feeding the filter but I don't have any coming out of the suction line at the pump. It's like it is reversing after I shut it down and emptying the line. I'm thinking it needs the valve built into the filter to keep that from happening. (It's called and anti-something valve)I have ordered another filter from different store but they couldn't tell me if it have the valve or not. Does that make sense?

Sounds like you are talking about an anti-drain back valve.

Another thing is that there could be shaft seals going in the pump allowing it to draw air and leak down.. any weeping around the housing at all?

The easy way to find an air leak on the suction side it to start at the filter cover or where the suction (larger diameter) external tubes come from the housing. Use chassis grease and wipe a ring around the fittings or the edges of the tubes.

Do this with the engine running - so be careful it is out of gear etc etc.

Keep moving toward the pump suction port until you hear it pick up fluid or the engine loads slightly - that is where the air leak is.

Sound like it leaks until it primes and then looses it again.

Don't forget the rubber hose splices on the metal tubes held with radiator style clamps.

Good luck.

Ok, sorry i haven't gotten back sooner but I wanted to make sure IT IS FIXED!!! The last thing I did was to take the rubber hose back apart again (actually it is more like hard plastic after all these years) inspected it for pin holes and such, reattached and tighten the **** out of the clamps and it has worked every since. I guess it was just getting enough air to let it lose prime. SO thanks everybody for the ideas they keep me on track. I was starting to over think the problem.
