Well,... we're going to purchase a 3510i for $16,900 (w/FEL).

I live in CO. and was wondering if anyone knows what tax rates apply to this purchase (i.e. city/county/state)? When purchasing a tractor are the taxes handled the same as when one purchases a vehicle?

Also what, if any, registration is necessary with the county/state? i.e. are tractors registered like vehicles?

Thanks!

Congratulations, Redfoxco! I'm sure you'll love your new 3510i, and I think you got it for a good price.

Every state has its own regs, but I imagine they are similar to one another. In Kentucky, I had to pay regular 6% sales tax for my 3510 when I bought it just over a year ago. It's like any other purchase unless you have a farm exemption (I don't). Here there is no registration like other vehicles that regularly use public roads. Check with your state's DOT.

Be sure you get it listed on your insurance policy, though. Mine is covered through my company's inland marine policy.

I am the Branson dealer in a rural southeast Alabama area and charge .015% state, .005 county....00 city. total 2% sales tax. Nothing for out of state. Sold all of my 3510i tractors though.

Hey Redfox,

I paid over $700.00 in sales tax here. County is like 7.5% and not sure what the state rate is. I did get a Affidavit for sales and use tax exemption on farm equipment form from the dealer. I paid the sales tax when I bought the tractor, but when I file income taxes this next year, I will get some or all of it back. They did state to qualify, you have to own a certain amount of land, 10 or 20 acres???? I have 40 myself. If you think this might apply to you, I will look up a couple Colorado Revised Statutes starting with CRS 39-26-114(20).
Also, your dealer should provide you with a copy of the affidavit. If you have trouble obtaining one, I can send you one.
I bought my tractor following the big fire down here on January 7th.
I won't see my tax refund till next year /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Also be glad to scan and email you a copy of the form to see if you qualify.

Steve
