Purple or orange Fuel dye??

Any one know of a supplier for fuel dye like purple or orange or some other non-std. color? for industrial diesel and aviation fuel application. Thanks

I'm not sure what "industrial" diesel is, but I believe only highway diesel is clear, all other is dyed. IRS saying was always "TAX or DYE".

As far as Aviation "jet" fuel, the aircraft industry has steadfastly objected to any dye in the fuel used on Jet aircraft. They were concerned about safety allegedly, but probably didn't want to deal wit the issue.

Just curious as to why you want to dye these fuels anyway.

Isn't one of the higher octane Av gasses a purple color? I used get the blue colored 100 octane for my bird.

From what I have seen, the army use to dye gas purple and call it mogas. the JP-4 and JP-8 for aircaft did not have dye it is a hotter burning diesel. JP-8 being the best the army has changed over some of the diesel engine to burn JP-4 it's alot cleaner but make the engine burn hotter. The other purple fuel I've seen is 112 oct. gas at the race track we run it in are race car I would not run any of it with out have the engine build to run it. Do not know if this helps but someone in the army or at the race track my be able to help in getting the dye are you might try the dry pack of dye sold in store's do not know if this would hurt the fuel I would try it in a small engine to see if it run first.

I could sure use some of that 112 octane fuel in my Corvair. It was originally designed for 1960's high octane fuel and the best that you can get today, makes it ping terribly when the turbo goes into boost. I rarely drive it any longer, because on a warm day, it pings so badly that you don't know how much damage is going to be done the way it sounds. All branded gasoline is color coded by brand name and is done at the tank farm when the delivery truck is loaded. The brand specific additives are added at this time too. From Boston, only Mobil has their own strorage tanks. Everyone else comes from a common facility.

When I owned my store I had Citgo gas and every 6 months or so an independent tester came and took a sample. He told me it was color coded and the lab could tell if it was really Citgo. A friend also had a station and he got caught not selling his brand. It cost him a $1,000 fine by the company. Different octanes have different color coding within brands.

That certainly wasn't true when I hauled fuel.

Every brand's unleaded was straw colored, all premium was red. Road diesel had no dye and was straw colored with a slight blue greenish tinge to it; off road or high sulfur was red.

When I was in the Navy in 1968 - 1971, we burned JP-4 in out boats. They had GM/Detroit Diesel 2 cycle 671's and 871's. It worked, but it did run hot and had less lubricating properties than Diesel. Since the Coxswains only had one speed, WFO, the JP-4 tended to shorten the engine lives considerably and was a concern for the engineers.
