I have a Rancher with a blade that I have pushed a lot of snow with. It does great until you start getting in to thick stuff like 16" + deep. The blade will ride up over the snow. When it's that deep I take a couple of swipes. One with the blade raised and another swipe with the blade lowered all the way.
I purchased a new 1998 Kawasaki 400 Prairie primarily to move snow. For a six hundred pound machine it was amazing.
It doesn't get used much anymore,I purchased a tractor, but in some cases its easier with the four wheeler. When snow is deep just take smaller bites.I was one of the first in my area to do this, now they are quite common.A friend of mine just put one on his Honda Rancher per my advise.
I have a 66" poly plow on my Polaris sportsman. We just had 12" of heavy wet snow on Sunday. Plowed my 140 ft. 3 stall drive no problem, I also plowed out my neighbor's drive too. 2 years ago we had a 18" or more with high wind that made 4 ft. drifts over half my drive. The snow was packed hard. I used my walk behind snowblower and it took a couple of hours to clear the drifts and clean up my drive.
Was thinking of getting a setup for my Kawasaki as the tractor without a blade is slow and moving snow with a BB and fel don't work so well. Will look into it a little more with your guys recs
I have a rancher/plow and it works great. Just got the JD2305 so I hope to use the atv less, but it has cleaned lots of snow for us. I rec synthetic rope/cable for winch after splicing cold cable a few times. I believe my tractor/blower and atv/plow will be a great combo.
Biggest issue I had in beginning of snow season was pushing snow far enough back to leave room for end of snow season stuff. ATVs are not great at shifting established snow banks. Leave lots of room for the expected levels of snow in your area.
I have a Polaris Sportman 850 with a Warn plow and wench, works good for moving the snow down our 180 ft drive. I just push it across the steet to a ditch and get it totally off the property and prevent the county from plowing me in when they get around to doing the street. I agree with others that once the berms on the side are formed it is tough to move it back, so leave room for additional snow fall. When that does happen I just get the BX out and move them back with the FEL.
I have a 2004 Honda Rincon (pictured to the left) and a 60" Moose snowplow. It does a fantastic job plowing snow, quick warm up time compared to my Massey and has a high fun factor. When its 12" or deeper you can adjust the angle of the plow and learn how to push the snow by getting head starts, also chains will help but as I do not use them I cant report on them.
The one con that I know of is once you make the plow bank, anytime you plow afterwards will just make it bigger (you cant push it back any further). So-plan ahead and plow a larger area in anticipiation of that and you will be okay I use a 7 foot synthetic rope designed for plows on my winch but it broke last winter so I just tied one end of it. The deeper the snow-the longer it it can take You may also be able to get a snowblower for it (snowblower has a seperate engine).
Had my mine plowing since 2009-no issues with my ATV yet.
