Put a Cant Hook ( Peavey ) Hanger on My Winch

I ued to carry my Cant Hook Like this



It worked pretty good but wasn't that handy to get at some times in tight woods or when the tractor was in the barn against the wall. I was also afraid I would catch the hook on something. So yesterday while it was raining I made some brackets.



I mounted them on the side of winch today. I think I will like this arrangement better.

They are very handy especially if you work in the woods. It is pto driven. They are called logging or forestry winches. They have various sizes depending on tractor size. Pulls are from around 5000 lbs to 12,000 lbs. There are many brands - Farmi, Fransgard, Norse, Wallenstien, to name a few. Mine is a small Farmi at 6400 lbs on a 30 hp tractor but it will do a lot.
The two main purposes are (1)winching in logs or trees from the woods to the tractor and then (2) lifting one end of the hitch of logs and skidding them out of the woods to a landing. But, you can do lots of other things too. You can get a lot more pull from a winch than you can from your draw bar and tires. They are expensive now. When I bought mine they it was only $1500.

My winch is an Igland 3601 (older model, no longer in production) on a 33hp New Holland in the pic, now on a 41hp Yanmar. Rated at 3.6 ton, has 150' of 1/2" cable on it.

I like the brackets. I need to do that on mine, as well as get some kind of a saw holder on there.

Nice work on the cant hook brackets. Little things like that make life easier, and makes you look forward to 'hard work' just that much more.
