Put the brakes on...

Hi I have just joined, I live in central Scotland and use my John Deere 5300 on my 35 acres where we keep horses and sheep

My brakes failed yesterday, both foot brake and hand brake and as I have no technical knowledge of the 5300 brakes was hoping I could find some answers on the forum.

If anyone has any idea of what the issue might be or any actions i can undertake to find the problem I would be appreciative of your response.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

It has to be something common if both the main & handbrake aren't engaging the brakes.

I would first investigate the linkage from the brake pedal to the brakes themselves. On my tractor, the 'handbrake' is a pull lever that simply locks the depressed 'foot brake' into that position.

After viewing parts catalog it appears there are many places to check for loose linkage.

Thank you all for the welcome and information
I will spend some time tomorrow trying to check if the problem is due to Linkage, hopefully it is and is something that I can, with my minimal technical ability, fix with a few parts. I am hoping to avoid shipping tractor to dealer for him to effect a repair, my wallet is trembling at the thought..
