This stump took my machine to it's limits. It took me almost three hours to dig this thing out of the ground. It started out as two pine trees growing together, but I managed to get the small one out without too much trouble. The new forks made quick work of the trunks and brush. I estimate the stump at about 1000 pounds as the loader was only able to lift it about a foot off the ground.

My wife was horrified at the size of the hole and is convinced I cut it down just to play on the tractor.

This tree was in the middle of a field and I cursed it every time I had to mow around it. After I got the stump out of the way I switched out the forks for the bucket, filled the hole, gave it a few back drags and planted seed. All in all a good workout for the tractor.

It is amazing how many roots a tree can have. In 2003 the day after X-mas I had a 70-80 foot tall bull pine fall during a windstorm. The tree covered my driveway and my old neighbors driveway. I cut up the tree and spent an entire spring digging the root system out. I broke a shovel and an axe before I got the roots broken off. I hooked my 1500 Silverado to the root and locked it in low range and I had to use a lot of throttle to pull the root out of the ground. The following year after I got my TC 30, I almost flipped my tractor over when I attempted to lift the root so I could push it over the bank. I do not look forward to another match with pine roots.

I'd trim the top of that stump nice & flat then stand it on its head somewhere. It'll look really cool as it weathers and serve as an example to other stumps.

Stumps are the most miserable things in the word to deal with.

Next time you have a tree that you want to get rid of, don't cut it down with a chain saw first. Use your backhoe to take it all out at once. It's allot easier and faster to just do it all at once.

Good job,
Eddie

Also if he finds another stump like this one he will not have to worry about mowing around it. The yard will be gone. I had to show this to my wife. She is still laughing because of the mess I had left after the tree fell over at my house. The part that I did not mention was how long I had a 4-5' deep hole off the end of my driveway. Seems my work vehicle (Buick at the time) ended up in the hole after It slid on ice. Seem that some dummy started filling in the hole with loose soil that was about a foot deep. I had to have a tow truck pull my car out.
