How many of us stretch projects out waiting for a better tool/implement?

Like I need to trim some limbs brushing against the house. I could use a ladder and a chain saw, or get a pole saw?

I need to make some accurate miter cuts, I could just saw until I get it right or buy a miter saw.

I find I now frequently put off things waiting to get the right tool, whereas I use to just use a Bronson rock and patch it until it looked good.

Still waiting for my orthopedic surgeon to say "This new shoulder will work better than what's left of your God-given one."

Better yet, you get that new tool and now find you have more work - I got my new tractor and am finding so many things I can now do that I used to ignore, good grief, when will it ever end?

Hopefully never.

I retired and find I now work more for my new boss (me) than I ever had before! Projects spawn projects.

I also retired this year. I'm taking my sweet ***** time doing anything and my boss better not say nuthin. ;) The projects are mounting up though.

Just commenced to cleaning the house and repainting the porch supports. dang pressure washer didn't want to run right so I broke down and bought a new one. Sure is nice having nice new stuff to work with. Started sanding on the porch supports and trying to stretch the life of the sanding belts. Got to the 3rd post and sent mama back to town for 6 packs of new belts. Ain't worth the pain of fighting with belts that slow down on cutting.

I use a different approach. Promise to do "projects" come with the new tool that I need. For instance, SO wanted a porch deck built. Sure, I said - Price of a new dual angle Dewalt miter saw, withe stand, goes with the price of materials.

Next, she wanted some Adirondack chairs. Sure - I said, band saw cost is part of the cost.

Same technique for every project. If the cost is too high, I never hear another word about wanting the project done. If not, viola! New tool.

But, as far as the two projects that you have on your "Honey Do List" - A good ladder is a household essential. Get one. Then, I personally like the pole saw; better reach without climbing all the way up and into trees for trimming limbs. Chain saws are for some serious tree cutting work.

Miter Saw? Forget miter boxes - get a good miter saw with a stand. Dual tilt head highly recommended. There are endless numbers of fun projects that you can do later with that tool.

Tools are forever. Buy GOOD tools once. Buy the best quality you can afford. Your children and grandchildren will enjoy them long after you're dead and gone. But you'll never be forgotten.

I was just using examples from my past.
Oh, I've got ladders, about 5 of the extension ladders 2 of them 32'. And I've the chainsaws in my sig. The best for ladder work is the B&D 40 volt. I had put off trimming some trees for a few years before I got that.

And as far as miter saws go I've had a 12" but I recently bought a DeWalt 6.5 " 20V Max for that niche where I need a miter saw to use for small projects like molding when redoing a room. The 12" was just to big to easily carry around. I had put off doing molding on a room for a year before I got the saw :).

And I fully agree with passing down good tools.

I'm still using a LOT of my Grandfathers tools, especially his 10" Delta tablesaw, but he never bought any 20V Max tools before he passed away in 1977.

Dang Newbury! There I was feeling sorry for you that you had NO tools :) And now we learn - you have more tools that Mr. DeWalt!!! Your cache makes me envious. Nah, not envious, but you can be proud of the tools that you do have... a value to you and your siblings.
