I was out working on my mower today, and gave it a shot of pyrol starting fluid to get it going. I set the can on its side on the ground next to the mower, and fired it up. It took, and then i noticed a white cloud spewing from the can. Ether is not the best thing to have spewing straight up in the air when fixing a backfiring mower with a mostly full gas tank so i ran up and winged it across the yard and hit the throttle and stalled the engine. My glove was covered in the stuff and it was all over the engine. I went and got the can but the bottom of the can was peeled back about 1/4 of an inch and about 1/3 of the way around. I have never seen this happen before, the can wasnt even shook up more then normal. What happened???

Sounds like the ether exploded due to the impact of hitting a rockor whatever. Since the can isn't that strong you didn't hear the explosion.

I'd have to agree.. thrown debri damage.. or collision with a sharp object when the can hit the ground. Either of those are way more likely than spontanious can failure.
