First let me say hello, as this is my first thead. I have lurked around for some time, but never posted anything. Now to my problem.

I have a 3830 HST with a 723 QA loader. The problem is, when I back drag the bucket to level ground, the QA pins will slide up and the bottom of the bucket will come off. The latches are both tight and not moving. The only thing moving are the beveled pins. Any suggestions on how to correct this.

I had thought about replacing the beveled pin with solid bar stock, and welding a pipe for them to engage into.

Welcome to the forum and I think your problem is in adjustment of the locking latches

Don't! The bevel on the pin is what holds the bottom of any QA implement tight against the QA. So you really need the pins to be beveled.

It sounds like the QA handle mechanism is loose or not fully engaged. When the handles are all the way down, the pins should be locked in place. You can adjust the effort required to lock the pins in place.

My L48 came with deffective quick attach which the dealer promptly fixed with bushings or something, now I am having the same problem when my forks are on, the always pop off when putting heavy down pressure on them. I think it has to do with the spring adjustment screws on each handle which regulates how much the pin can move up or down. Still have not figured it out, but need to cause it is dam annoying having to reconnect each time.

I had the same problem when I first got my L3130. My solution was easy - I disassembled the latch assemblies and added a stack of 5 or 6 washers under the spring on each. Left enough play that I could just manage to lock the latches. Haven't had the problem since. Kubota put out a fix for some models about two years ago. The fix I believe was a tube over the pin under the spring which accomplished the same thing only more elegantly.

I'll try the washers tonight, that is an easier way to correct the problem than I have come up with. Don't guess you remember what size washers worked best do you? 5/16", 1/2", or 3/4" Hope it works for me too! Thanks

I may just be thick headed, but I don't understand why the locking pins on the QA are not a rigid pins, instead it is allowed to travel with pressure against the spring "like a shock absorber". If I tighten the spring pressure, I reduce the length of pin that is being engaged into the attachment. I have used QA on several of John Deere, and I really like something solid locking the QA.

I don't remember what size washer I used. The spring is needed to give the cam over action. The washers limit the range of motion after cam over so that the pins cannot move far enough to disconnect. The same thing could be done with a tube over the pin shaft under the spring. That would be a cut and try thing. The washer fix was quick and easy. Once you figure it out for one pin, do the same for the other.

Take a good look when it is locked. I think you are not locked in right. The pin should slide under a stop so it cannot rise up during use.

Thanks Texbaylea,

Well, the washers worked great.

I took 3/8" long piece of schedule 40 1" square tubing and put under the spring, and (3)- 1/2 inch washers on top of the spring. I really think some of these FEL w/QA must have been installed with the wrong size springs.
This prevents the pen from traveling up the spring far enough to jump out.

Thanks Again,

Brian

If the QA is properly locked the pins are under a stop and cannot rise up. If they can rise enough to unhook then the QA or the attachments are made wrong.
