I just did the 50 hour service on my Mahindra 4530 4WD with FEL. What a pain the *ss. The drain plug was so tight on the oil pan that I nearly stripped the head of the bolt getting it off. I don't know why they would put it on there so tight. After that, everything went pretty good until I got to the suction screen on the transmission. Manual says to clean it at 50 hours, but doesn't have any instructions about how to get to it. So, I fumbled my way through it. What should have taken less than an hour ended up taking me over three hours. At first, I thought I could just take out the two screws at the front of the container that the suction filter sits in. But then there's no way to get it out. So, I thought I would loosen the screws that hold it up into the bottom of the transmission. Then I noticed that there are two clamps holding it in place, so I thought if I loosened those, I could slide the container back and get to the filter. None of that worked. I noticed that there were two bolts holding it on up at the filter housing. When I took those out, I was able to slide the tube and the filter out of the container.

Putting it all back together was a whole other story. Getting all that crap lined back up was a pain in the *ss. I still have one bolt that holds the clamp that secures the container to the tractor that I can't get a tool on to tighten it up. Looks like I'm going to have to take it all back apart again and start over to get that last bolt tightened up. Looks like if I would have just taken the two screws out of the front of the suction filter container and the two bolts out of the flange at the filter, it would have come out easily without taking all that other stuff apart. I wish I had known that beforehand. Anyone else have experience with cleaning or replacing the suction screen filter?

I had similar problems with mine the first time I did service on it. It seems the guys in the plant take pride on tightening every maintenance drain plug to 1000 psi, and then send it to the paint booth where they paint over all of them, just to make sure they don't leak.

I had to take a torch and heat up the bolts on the front axle drains in order to break them loose with a 3' breaker bar.

The good news is that the next time you do service, it will only take you less than an hour. (depending on your access to your screen filter)

Thanks. Can you tell me how you access your screen filter? There's got to be an easier way than what I did.
