Question about a old bush hog disk replacing the blades

I have a old bush hog disk that the model is a 1424. It has 20" notched blades on the front and 20" plain blades on the back. I called bush hog and they haven't made blades for that model in 30 years and don't have a clue what blades came standard on it. I'm almost positive the gain bolt or axel will measure 11/8". I have one of the plain blades on the back to break off. Looking at replacing all of the blades on the back but don't have a clue what thickness or concavity that I need. Can anybody tell me how to measure the concavity of one of the old blades or what they would use to replace the plain blades with. Never dealt with doing this and I can see there is a learning curve to go through here. We use this disk mostly to break up food plots. Thanks Rick

It isn't that complicated. Take a gang apart. Measure the gang bolt and take note of its shape (e.g. 1-1/8" square). You already know the disc diameter, 20". There are plain concave discs, crimp center discs, and conical discs. Yours are plain old concave discs as Bush Hog didn't use crimp center or conical discs. Measure the disc thickness at a point not subject to wear, like at the center hole, assuming the gang was tight when you disassembled it. When you get all the dimensions, start shopping. Disc harrow discs are essentially a generic product available from just about any ag equipment dealership you will find, and several places online like Shoupparts.com or AgriSupply.

Then your hardest choice will be how much you want to spend on your rebuild project. Whether you buy disc made in USA/Canada/Brazil or India. These here on my A@B Eagle line are made in Canada.

Nice looking disc, Boone.. how wide is it, and what does the Kubota think of it? Mine is just over 6 feet wide, a bit less aggressive and it has no trouble pulling it.

Howdy Sean ! I call that my "parade" DH. :laughing: ! I've never used that one it has sat bout 5 years new in my shop. I'am not a BS artist I had previously posted that it was an A@B Eagleline well I went back to shop with my glasses and found a model # on it on a plate. Also have original manual turns out its a Howse. 6 foot wide plus say it weighs bout 655 lbs.
However over at a buddy's ranch(4 food plots only) I pull a KK I'd say same width and maybe 650 lbs. smooth disc not serrated in 2 ND/ 3 RD gear low with no trouble.

The other little 16 disc in pic is a Semco. I posted a pic of a BB with it cause I got them together off CL to resell/trade.
Which I since have. That one was to light and short for our tractors. Pulled like it was not even there.
Ever owned stuff you haven't used yet or knew what it was ?

Agri-Supply in the SE/USA has 518 different disc pans in inventory.

For concavity, just put a straight edge across the pan, then measure down to the bottom of the pan.

If this Harrow is really worn, you may find a new one is cheaper than buying a lot of expensive parts to install.

For food plots, 20" or 22" notched pans are the way to go. Eighteen inch pans will not give you the weight needed to cut unopened or infrequently worked ground.

Personally, I think Howse is the value leader in Disc Harrows. Howse has excellent build quality.
