I'm trying to adjust the front to back height on my brush cutter. I understand the back should be 1-2" higher than the front. The top link on my 1500 doesn't appear to take up enough to get the front off the ground. Do you normally have to raise the front of the cutter using the 3-pt hitch to get the desired angle?

Thanks,
Randy

Randy,
Use your lift to set the hight of the front first. Then you can use the tail wheel to get the angle you want or need. When you get done setting it up, you should have slack in the top link when everything else it set and ready to mow.

You will have to have the 3p pt hitch adjusted somewhere above the bottom. After I set mine up, I mark the lever setting with a pencil so I can return to the same setup after raising or lowering the cutter. It is unhandy, but I haven't found a better way to do it. Maybe someone has a suggestion?

Ok, then you do have to use the lift to set the front end height. Then I may have a problem...if I lift an implement with the 3 pt. hitch, the implement will not stay up unless I keep the lever in position. If I let go of the lever, the implement drops, and the lever goes back to the down position. Is this normal? I thought when I lifted something, it should stay lifted unless I moved the lever.

Thanks for the help.

Look on the handle that raises and lowers the 3 pt. There should be a screw that goes through it that keeps it against a curved piece of metal. Check to see how loose that screw is. It may need tightening. There is a friction disk in there also. It looks like a plastic washer. It could be missing.

If the lever goes down.. the implement is going to go down.

on my 1700, I used a piece of rubber to make friction against the lift quadrant to keep the 3pt lever in place.

Thanks, Brent, I'll look at that.

Brent,
I just looked at the screw..it was totally loose! I hand tightened the nut against the spring. I think that has got it.

thanks, again.

Normally your rear wheel will be set and bolted in, so when you adjust the lever to the correct height, their should be a screw stop with a wingnut to set so it can't drop lower than that point, plus friction should hold the handle in place when you lift the implement. Set your toplink so the implement does not hit the driveshaft when lifting and/or your swivel link is vertical for maximum rise/fall in following terrain. A set of check chains is also a good idea for maintaining the front height of the cutter and keeping pressure off the 3ph.

I use a spare pinn through a heavy ring amd one of the top link ath-pointts on my tractor and a chain with s-hooks to set the height of the frount of the cutter. The pin is passed through the ring and then the chain through the ring attach to the lift points and take up the slack. just droup the cutter and it will always be at the height you set it every time and no worry about hitting the leaver.
