I just purchased this tractor to cut about 1 acre. I have read on here some pretty negative comments regarding the 1000 series cub cadet. My question is about the transmission slipping problem. Mine doesn't do it, but if this is going to happen, when can it be expected? i have 4 hours on my tractor now.

When i climb a hill in my back yard, i do hear the transmission bare down but this is normal right? It doesn't stop but it will slow down. Normal or not?

it was between this tractor and the JD 125. I just felt the cub offered more value. Higher back rest, 3 year warranty, free cover, $125 in HD gift cards, kohler motor, bigger cutting deck and deck wash. The JD was just plain and i understand that the 125 JD isn't a "real" JD per say.

Please help me here. so far i am happy, but i could still take it back. Just need to know some of the details on this transmission problem and any other problems i will have to worry about. I am not at all mechanically inclined so i would have to take anything to a dealer if it broke. So you see my concern.

If it has the transmission slipping problem you should notice it early on. If it does have this problem it's an easy fix and any dealer should be able to perform the work as indicated in the service bulletin.

On hills or anywhere you have the tractor loaded you will hear the transmission whine. That is normal. You will also hear it if you stomp on the pedal quickly.

If you are just mowing with your Cub you should be fine. I have a 1046 and I do a little more than just mow. I pull an aerator and cart and it has no problems at all with that.

The main thing is to just keep your Cub properly maintained. Check the oil before every mowing session. And change the oil and filter at the intervals listed in your owner's manual. You said you aren't mechanically inclined, if you don't feel comfortable changing the oil, the dealer can handle that for you too. Also there are many grease fittings on the tractor, so make sure you keep those properly lubed as well.

As for the deck wash system. I tried it a couple times and it seemed to work ok, but didn't get ALL of the grass built up under the deck. So I am probably just going to scrape grass from under the deck every so often like I have done on every other mower I have had. Either way, no harm no foul. Let us know how the deck washing is working for you.

And you definitely came to the right place. If you notice anything out of the ordinary or have any other questions, feel free to ask here. Lots of knowledgable people here.

RebalRAM, I think your pretty spot on with your view on the 1000 series. I've had a good experiance so far at just short of 10 hours of use. I've also tried the deck wash system and I wasn't really impressed with it. It made more of a mess of the area and the tractor than cleaning the deck.
