I just bought a cab-chassis F-250 with a service bed. It's a 4x4 extended cab with the 6.2L gas engine and 3.73 gears. 158 wheelbase.

According to this chart 2016 Ford Super Duty | View Payload Specifications | Ford.com I can carry up to 3200 lbs in the bed (the truck GVWR is 10K) and the towing capacity is 12.4K. Seems a little light. I wanted a SRW F-350 but the weight only increased by a few hundred lbs on both towing and cargo. I asked the salesman how much I could load the truck with and he said 4K due to it being a cab chassis and that it had a heavier payload than a normal truck. I plan on contacting him tomorrow and try to find the exact numbers but I would also like to find something on-line to look at as well.

Here is a picture of the truck:

Your salesman didn't know what he was talking about.

The GVWR on my F350 SRW truck is 11,500# vs 10,000# for the F250 The tow rating seems right for a gas truck.

You really need to weigh it with the flat bed on it and you in it then subtract that weight from the 10,000# GVWR to find your actual payload.

Assuming I went with the supercab f350 srw it would only be rated for 600 more lbs in the payload capacity. The 250 will do what I want it to. I was just comparing specs.

Cab-chassis truck with an aftermarket bed might have a sticker in the door frame with the GVWR reflecting the added bed. My Dodge does, it looks like it's required maybe?

remember a lot of the GWV is EPA and DOT related, if over 10,000 lb some say you need CDL to drive it,

and some is so it will fit into a EPA emission range,

and is a general guideline for weight carrying capacity, (and a easy way to get out of coving warranties,

on my one tone F350 the most I have had was one time 9600 pounds cargo, yes it was over loaded, but hauled many 7800 pound cargo loads, but when one starts getting over 5000 pounds your stressing the truck, the truck and bed weighed in about 6500 pounds, so ford would have said my truck would only have had a pay load of 3500 pounds, still driving it 37 years later, (no axel or spring problems) , (did ended up rebuilding the automatic transmission do to pulling 20,000 pound trailer over the mountains in Montana, truck was only loaded in at 10,000 that trip, so a total of 30,000 pounds, but only did that out of necessity,

(what I am saying is if keep on the road they can carry more than the manufactured rating).

(if off roading, I would not suggest not to load it any more than it's ton rating, and then only slow and careful).

I completely agree.

Chris is right. What you need to do is weigh it after the bed is installed. With you and a 1/2 tank of gas in it when on the scale, plus any "normal" cargo that you'll carry every day. Subtract that scale weight from 10K lbs and you'll have your load capability.

My F450 has a GVWR of 15,000 lbs. I have not run it across the scales yet, but I'm hoping its under 9000 lbs empty. I'd really like to legally haul 3 tons.
